Kaylee: Mom, leave Yuki out of this. I literally just met her, and she seems nice-

Alyse: I DON’T CARE HOW ‘NICE’ SHE IS!!! I will not have you seen with her! I have half a mind to pull you out of public school and –

Nathaniel & Kaylee: WHAT?!

Kaylee: Mom! You can’t do that?

Alyse: And why ever not? You clearly show you can’t handle being away from the house-

Nathaniel: Alyse, if you pull her out of school for this, what do you think people will say? Hmm? They’ll say you’re a terrible mother who doesn’t know how to take care of their child, and-

Alyse: Alright, enough!

All:

Alyse: You’re grounded, and I still expect you to wear a dress to school.

Kaylee: [sigh] Fine.

Nathaniel: Alyse-

Alyse: Leave it, Nathaniel. You can argue with me about this later. Bed, you two. Now!

Garret & Kaylee: Yes Mother.

I’ve given up on editing screenshots for this series. I just am not happy with the results once they’re uploaded to tumblr. Maybe for my nsb, but for Hargrove, editing is no longer something I’m gonna do, it just slows me down and makes me dread going anywhere near the story. So yeah.

Alyse: I told you both my expectations for how you would act when we first moved to this tiny postage-stamp of a town. I expected you to be well-behaved children, who would reflect well on their parents’ reputation, and I have been sorely disappointed. The mere fact that you went to that cafe with those…alternative folk, and sat with them, proves to me that the two of you have absolutely no idea of how to make friends with the proper sort.

Alyse: Take that teal-haired girl, for instance. That is no natural hair color, what must her parents think? They must feel so ashamed of her and her poor life decisions, because surely after the hair, there are many more just laying under the surface.

Alyse: Thank you for finally joining us, Kaylee. I’m so sorry to interrupt your day dreaming.

Kaylee:

Garret: Mom, why are we here. We’ve literally never had a curfew before, and now we’re suddenly being punished for being out after eight? What are we, five years-old?

Alyse: Don’t sass my, Garret. Or you’ll be grounded for insubordination!

Garret: Yes, ma’am.

Garret: So Mom’s been telling me to study more, so how about we go down to the coffee shop, get some mochas, and crack open a text book with some people from school?

Kaylee: A mocha is exactly what I need right now! Who are these people though?

Garret: Just some people I’ve met around. They’re pretty cool. Just don’t ever invite them around the house, or the Red-haired Banshee will never let me hear the end of it.

Kaylee: Why? What would Her Royal Bitchiness not approve of?

Garret: They’re just some of the more…alternative people around school. Get in trouble a lot, flaunt the dress code, things like that. [snooty voice] Not at all suitable for the companionship of my precious children!

Kaylee: [laughing] I need to meet these people asap.

After School

Garret: Hey, Kay. Why so down?

Kaylee: [sigh] It was just a long day, man.

Garret: Nothing the best twin hug in the world can’t fix! Come here.

Kaylee: Thanks Garret. Twin hugs fix everything.

I feel like Alyse got off work early just to make sure Kaylee didn’t change at school.

Garret: Get rekt you sucky AI!

Nathaniel: Care if I join? That way you can wreck your old man, not just a bunch of pixels.

Garret: Sure Pops.

Garret:

Garret: Dad, I think Kaylee isn’t a girl.

Nathaniel: Wh-what? Your sister is a girl, that’s what sister means.

Garret: No, Dad, I-I think Kaylee’s trans.

Nathaniel:

Nathaniel: Don’t tell your mother.

Garret: Are you gonna tell her?

Nathaniel: God no! She’d kick Kaylee out in a heartbeat. Just, let me work on it, okay?

Garret: ‘kay.

Exactly what Kaylee was afraid of.

Garret: Hey sis, what’s up?

Kaylee: I just…I’m so done with this dude…

Garret: Done with what? Your not thinking of jumping off a cliff, are you? How could you leave me like this?! I thought we had something special Kay-

Kaylee: [laughing] Shut up, you ass. I’m not jumping off a cliff, I’m just thinking about leaving.

Garret: Leaving…?

Kaylee: Leaving here, going back to the city. I can’t do this Garret. I can’t keep living with Mom always telling me how to act and dress and-

Garret: Kay, I know what you mean, but we just turned seventeen. You can’t just leave, we have the rest of the year-

Kaylee: I DON’T CARE ABOUT THAT STUPID SCHOOL!!!! I just want to be somewhere where I can be me and no one will tell me to put on a dress or wear my hair down! I just hate it here.

Garret: …Kay, I’ve always wondered this, but…why do you wear my old clothes?

Kaylee: Because I like your clothes and hate everything about ‘mine.’
