Alyse: Kaylee, it is after 8 o’clock at night. How many times do I have to tell you your curfew is 8?

Kaylee: Um, this is the first I’ve heard of a curfew? Not even when we lived in the city-

Alyse: Don’t back talk me! Say goodbye, we’re going home.

Kaylee: Is Garret’s surprise curfew 8pm too? Or is it just me who’s being punished here?

Yuki: And how exactly did your mom force you into a dress? Don’t you have free will turned on?

Kaylee: Turned on…? Nevermind, she just made it very…clear to me that if I didn’t wear ‘proper attire’ that I’d be out.

Yuki: Out how?

Kaylee: …Out of the family. She’d disown me. Kick me out. I really don’t know why she’s like this, sure she’s strict with Garret, but not to this extent. He could get caught wasted at a party, knock up a girl, and flunk out of school, and she’d still let him stay at home. But heaven forbid I wear jeans and a sweatshirt to school.

Yuki: That is messed up. I’m glad my parents are too busy travelling the world to try and micromanage my life. It’s just me and Candy at home.

Kaylee: Who’s Candy?

Yuki: My older sister. She’s usually out partying all night, so I don’t really have to deal with her. And speaking of Candy usually being MIA, do you wanna hang out some time?

Alyse: Kaylee Hargrove!

Kaylee: Seriously, why does the sun set so early here man?

Morgan: Whatever, I’m just trying to do my homework. Later.

???: So what’s up with the dress?

Kaylee: What? What do you mean?

???: You never wear dresses. I’ve seen you around school and you’ve always been pretty androgynous. What gives?

Kaylee: Um, I don’t really talk about my choice in fashion with complete strangers.

???: I’m Yuki. People call me Yukes.

Wolfgang: [in the distance] No we don’t!

Yuki: Anyway…what’s with the dress? Where’s the jeans and beanie?

Kaylee: [sigh] My Mom forced me to wear it.

Garret: So Mom’s been telling me to study more, so how about we go down to the coffee shop, get some mochas, and crack open a text book with some people from school?

Kaylee: A mocha is exactly what I need right now! Who are these people though?

Garret: Just some people I’ve met around. They’re pretty cool. Just don’t ever invite them around the house, or the Red-haired Banshee will never let me hear the end of it.

Kaylee: Why? What would Her Royal Bitchiness not approve of?

Garret: They’re just some of the more…alternative people around school. Get in trouble a lot, flaunt the dress code, things like that. [snooty voice] Not at all suitable for the companionship of my precious children!

Kaylee: [laughing] I need to meet these people asap.

After School

Garret: Hey, Kay. Why so down?

Kaylee: [sigh] It was just a long day, man.

Garret: Nothing the best twin hug in the world can’t fix! Come here.

Kaylee: Thanks Garret. Twin hugs fix everything.

I feel like Alyse got off work early just to make sure Kaylee didn’t change at school.

Alyse: Oh, now that’s lovely. Why can’t you just wear something like that every day?

I hate this I hate this I hate this

Kaylee: I’m gonna be late. Good bye, Mother. Bye Dad!

Alyse: See Nathaniel, that wasn’t so difficult.

Nathaniel: She looks miserable!

Alyse: No, she looks like a respectable young lady, the daughter of a top politician and a- mail technician.

Nathaniel: Don’t start on that again. And besides, shouldn’t you be getting ready to leave as well?

Nathaniel: Morning Allie 😉

Alyse: Not now Nathaniel, Kaylee stop eating and go get ready for school, I want to approve your attire before you leave.

Nathaniel: Alyse, just let her wear what she wants-

Alyse: Stay out of this Nathaniel. Kaylee and I have come to an understanding, so she is going to go get ready and then I am going to approve what she’s wearing.

Kaylee: It’s fine Dad. Mom’s right, we came to an…understanding…about what I wear to school.

Nathaniel: …And what was this understanding?

Kaylee: Just forget about it Dad. I’m gonna get ready now.

Nathaniel: You’re too hard on her. And what is this arrangement you’ve made with your own d- child?

Alyse: Leave it Nathaniel, Kaylee’s just learning that if she wants a place in this house, she needs to follow whatever rules her parents set for her.

Nathaniel: You mean what rules you set for her.

Alyse: Oh, shut up Nathaniel, she’s coming.
